Net Carbs vs. Net Effective Carbs – Marketing Hype
In the next video of the “How to” Atkins low carb videos, I discuss the issue of “net carbs” vs. “net impact carbs” (or “net effective carbs”). Net impact carbs is found throughout the marketplace as vendors are lobbying for the low carb market. I define net carbs as strictly as possible for me, which is grams of Total Carbohydrates minus grams of Fiber. The marketers would rather have you believe that the Sugar Alcohols do not count. The reality is that they do count in more ways than one. Not only do they count from 25-75% as much Sugar, they also have some pretty negative side effects. They have been shown to cause both gas and diarhea in a number of people. This is due to them not being digested before the large intestines, which leads to the bloating. You might be among the fortunate few that are not as gastric affected by sugar alcohols. Your brain might hamper your weight loss efforts with a cephalic insulin reaction. Atkins Diet Misconceptions: Kidney Stones Inevitable?
In another of Atkins Diet Misconception series, I deal with the question of kidney stones or “does the Atkins Diet impair kidney function?” First, if you have damaged kidney function already due to Chronic Kidney Disease, Metabolic disorder, or impaired kidney function, it is recommended that you do not try the Atkins Diet. There is sizable water intake on this diet, and you should follow your doctor’s orders. For everyone else, it has been proved more than once that high protein (or medium protein in the case of Atkins) is safe for kidney function. Those that rail against it have been doctors with bias (PCRM (PETA) related doctors or have relied on bad science studies where multiple items were changed at once. Studies supporting the idea of high protein being safe for HEALTHY people’s kidneys: www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov Dietary protein intake and renal function “”While protein restriction may be appropriate for treatment of existing kidney disease, we find no significant evidence for a detrimental effect of high protein intakes on kidney function in healthy persons after centuries of a high protein Western diet. … Rather, we found that habitual consumption of a high protein diet minimally affected hydration indices. … Therefore, claims that a high protein diet promotes dehydration or adversely “strains” the kidney remain speculative.” www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov March 2000 “Do regular high protein diets have potential health risks on kidney function in athletes?” To conclude …

Dr. Fuhrman — Value of High Fat Foods
The importance of eating nuts and seeds for health, rather than oils and why super low fat eating is not ideal, and more about essential fatty acids. Olive oil is not good for your heart! (It’s just not as bad as other fats most people eat, but it still promotes heart disease.) This is a 10-minute excerpt from one of Dr. Fuhrman’s 90-minute talks from the Healthy Lifestyle Expo 2007. Atkins Diet Misconceptions: Waning popularity or passing fad?
One of the constant comments is “didn’t low carb die off in 2004?” or “didn’t Atkins Nutrition go bankrupt?” The implication is that it was obviously a fad diet, and that all wise people know better now. Besides just simply being false comments, I have been seeing more subscribers lately than ever, and my humble video and blog have been receiving more views than ever. (Here are the results from 2009 videos – www.network-admin.net There are still numerous people doing the diet and many starting on a daily basis, and while perhaps it might not be as “hip” or cool as 2004, people doing Atkins now have better access to more low carb recipes, better support sites, and better communal atmosphere than back in 2004. A lot of the naysayers criticisms have been addressed or proven false since 2004 as well.
High Protein Vegetarian and Vegan Foods and Meals
www.ttfatloss.com Check out this video to discover high protein vegetarian and vegan foods. You’ll be surprised by how much protein is in a lot of “so called low protein foods”. I’m sure this video will cause bodybuilders and protein supplement addicts to freak out. Here we have another episode of Craig in the Kitchen. Today we are talking about Vegetarian protein sources, and what’s in my cupboards. We’ve done my fridge, so today we’ll look at some of the foods that are surprisingly high in protein. Most people make a big deal out of protein, and for fat loss it’s a tricky subject. We aren’t going to go into too much detail in regards to that, but for muscle building, protein is actually overrated. If you’re eating a lot of calories, then you’ll have no problem getting your protein, even if you’re like me and following a vegan diet. So what are the protein sources that I’m eating? First of all, we have Ezekiel cereal. A lot of people ask me questions about this stuff, exactly, where they can get it? We have it in health food stores and some grocery stores. The Ezekiel cereal has 8 grams of protein per half cup serving and you all know how easy it is to get 1 or even 2 cups of cereal in your bowl. So, from that alone you’ll be getting a lot of protein, especially if you mix it with something like Hemp Bliss, a beverage containing 5 grams of protein Almond Breeze on the other hand, only has 1 gram of protein/cup. Another thing I eat a lot of is oatmeal, specifically …
