LLVLC On YouTube: Are Calories Really That Important On A Low-Carb Diet? (Episode 71)
LivinLaVidaLowCarb.com blogger Jimmy Moore and his wife Christine decided to address the issue of calories and their importance on the healthy low-carb lifestyle in the latest installment of their popular “Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb on YouTube” series. In Episode 71, Jimmy and Christine talk about whether it is the quantity of calories or the quality of the calories you consume that matters most when you are eating low-carb (or any nutritional approach designed for weight loss for that matter). Although fat has more than twice as many calories per gram as carbohydrate or protein, the nutrient-density of that fat calories will keep your appetite suppressed and hunger under control much more efficiently than consuming large amounts of carbs which actually stimulate insulin leading to hunger pangs shortly after eating them. Jimmy cites a fantastic book written by low-carb physician Dr. James E. Carlson called “GENOCIDE: How Your Doctor’s Dietary Ignorance Will Kill You!” that you really ought to pick up a copy of for your personal healthy library: www.amazon.com In Chapter 6 of his book, Dr. Carlson explains why the idea of “burning” calories is mistaken and that in the grand scheme of nutrition the calorie is completely irrelevant. One patient was eating 2000 calories a day and exercising, but could not lose weight. Dr. Carlson switched him to a high-fat, moderate-protein, low-carb nutritional approach consuming upwards of 6000-8000 calories daily without changing his exercise …

1 of 5 Mark Sisson on living low carb paleo properly, and eating grass fed animals
www.thelivinlowcarbshow.com wholehealthsource.blogspot.com I’m sure many of you paleo types out there are familiar with Mark Sisson’s blog. His site offers great info on diet, nutrition, and exercise. This is my proof that 1 major paleo proponent on the net still consumes a lot of omega 6’s (albeit they are natural sources). i247.photobucket.com These are the foods Mark ate for a day. i247.photobucket.com —– this shows his breakdown of macros. Notice how his polys are at 6%, not too shabby. However, if you consider the fact that he is consuming 2377 calories, that means he is consuming almost 16 grams of polyunsaturates a day. Looking at what he consumed in the first graph, he is pritty heavy on the omega 6’s (using nutritiondata.com): 6oz avocado, 1 oz of almonds, 2 tbsp of olive oil, 3 whole eggs, is 2838mg, 3573mg,2636mg, and 3231mg respectively of omega 6’s (with barely any omega 3’s from those foods to speak of except for paltry amounts in eggs and olive oil). We are already at ~12200mg of omega 6. Lets say for arguments sake that the remaining amount of grams of polys are at a 1:1 ratio of 3s to 6s – that would still put him at around ~14100mg of omega 6 with 1900mg if omega 3 with a ratio of 7.4 to 1. At that kind of ratio, what kind and size of omega 3 supplement would you want to be taking?? Mark, at least to me, seems to be consuming a great diet (lots of whole foods, fresh, and with lots of micronutrients). However, he still consumes a decent amound of omega …

Low Carb Pizza Recipe: “The Breadless Wonder”
Low Carb Pizza Recipe: Ive named it The Breadless Wonder Pizza 4 eggs (or 2 eggs if you only want a personal pan size) 1 small package (I forgot to look at the oz) mozzarella cheese Pizza sauce (use as needed, save some for next pizza) Whatever toppings you desire. My Breadless Wonder had the following toppings: Hillshire Farm Beef Sausage Pepperoni Onions Green Peppers Mozzarella & Cheddar cheese mix (small package, again forgot to look at oz) Heat oven to 350 Bust the eggs and mix in a dish with the mozzarella cheese. Stirring ingredients together Coat a frying pan with either Pam or butter. Im sure Pam is better, but I used butter. On the stovetop on medium heat pour egg/cheese batter into the frying pan and make sure ingredients are evenly distributed and coat the entire bottom of the pan. Do not stir or scramble After the egg/cheese mix has hardened to look like a bread crust like consistency, place the entire frying pan in the oven (if your frying pan shouldnt go into the oven, then carefully place your crust into a baking or pizza pan that can go into the oven). It was just easier for me to place the entire pan in the oven. Leave in the oven for approximately 5 minutes or until crust appears hard enough to hold toppings. While the crust is baking, on top of the stove sauté onions, green peppers, sausage and any other ingredients you prefer on your pizza because you want all meats/veggies cooked before you place them on your crust. After youve sautéed your toppings …
