What Is Low Carbs Diet And How Does It Work?
Low-carbohydrate diets or low carbs diets are dietary programs that restrict carbohydrate consumption usually for weight control or for the treatment of obesity. Foods high in digestible carbohydrates (e.g. breads, pasta) are limited or replaced with foods containing a higher percentage of proteins and fats (e.g. meats, soy products) and often other foods low in carbohydrates (e.g. green leafy vegetables).
Eating low carbs diets do not work because they are too strict, not sustainable and make your life miserable as your body does not function properly without carbohydrate. Your body needs carbohydrate to form glucose or blood sugar, which is essential for most body functions. When you reduce the amount of carbohydrate in your body, your body is forced to find alternative energy from your body and the energy is body fat. When body fat is broken down for energy, a chemical called Ketones is produced. Ketones is a chemical produced when there is a shortage of insulin in the blood and the body breaks down body fat for energy. High levels of ketones can lead to diabetic ketoacidosis and coma, sometimes referred to as ketone bodies. Ketones will cause you to lose appetite hence the weight loss. As a side effect Ketones will also cause you to have bad breath, nausea, headaches, irritability, dizziness, fatigue and loss of sleep. By practicing low carb diets it will actually cause you to lose weight initially and after a period of time when you become boring of the lack of variety of food, the strict nature of the diet and the side effects it causes, you will eventually start to eat more carbohydrate and eventually you will gain more weight than before.
As such, eating low carbs diets is not the best diets because the price you have to pay is not worth it. Your overall health is far more important. The best diets we are looking for is something that will make you lose weight fast in a healthy way.
Low Carb Diets That Work- Melt Away Fat With These Simple Low Carb Diet Tips
In recent years, low carb diets that work are requested more often by my personal training clients than any other type of diet. The reason they are so popular is probably because my clients see immediate results on the scale. After they have been cleared by their physicians to exercise and diet, I make sure that I give them these simple and effective, low carb diet tips.
1) Drink At least 8 Glasses Of Water Daily
And, I don’t mean ice tea or diet sodas, I mean good old fashioned H2O! All low carb diets that work require drinking large quantities of water. Water is important because it causes the kidneys to continually be working at eliminating the fluids. This action helps prevent water retention, and keeps the weight loss steady. Individuals on a low carb diet will have to adjust their lifestyles to being close to a restroom at all times! Also, it is a good idea to spread the water consumption out over the course of a whole day. Most of the water should be consumed at least 3 hours before bedtime, to help prevent frequent trips to the bathroom during the night.
2) Exercise In Moderation
Exercise helps to burn additional calories and boost the metabolism. The key to a successful exercise program is to start out slowly, in accordance to your fitness level. If it is within your means, hiring a personal trainer can be a good investment. Gradually increase the frequency and duration of your exercise program.
Actually, simply increasing your activity level can make a difference in how rapidly you burn fat. A brisk walking program with a friend can help burn more fat, and be a social event at the same time!
3. Try Natural Diuretics And Supplements
A diuretic is a substance that helps eliminate fluids and prevents water retention. Some natural diuretics are herbal teas, and even coffee. Sometimes it is also a good idea to take additional B vitamins and vitamin C, as they are washed away during elimination. Check with your physician before taking supplements on a low carb diet that works.
Earlier this year, I was approached by my clients to find good low carb diets. Many had made new year’s resoltions, and needed help. So I began researching ALL kinds of diets, in order to find diets that performed as advertised. I even tried a few myself! Most of my research was done online, and I also conducted some phone interviews with the creators of popular diet plans.
I only found a few low carb diets that seemed to acheive very rapid weight loss, without sacrificing an individual’s energy levels. I reccomended these diets as Low Carb Diets That Work

Moving to low carbohydrate diet doesn’t mean just giving up meat for pasta or egg fro morning bread. Below are 9 useful tips to make the changeover or shift from the usual high carb diet to a low carbohydrate diet.
1. Count the carbohydrates. When you eat carbohydrate you must go in for complex ones like wholegrain breads and pasta, pulses and non-starchy vegetables and fruits.
2. Go for foods that lower glucose response. Fruits and vegetables that have the lowest glycaemic index are apples, apricots, broccoli and asparagus.

Low Carb Diet Secrets – Research Proven
Many incorrectly liken the genesis of very low carbohydrate ketogenic diets (VLCKD) to the late Dr. Atkins. While Dr. Atkins played a seminal role in bringing VLCKD to the lime light in the later half of the 20st Century. VLCKD have been used for a long, with a long track record of safety and effectiveness (despite what the media or your local dietitian my try to tell you).
Dr. Atkins pasted away in 2003. Since then the use of VLCKD and carbohydrate restriction for weight loss and the prevention of cardiovascular disease has continued to increase in use and popularity. Much of this continued growth in low carb popularity can be attributed to the work of several (so called) renegade scientists that have chosen to follow what the scientific data says even if that means questioning long standing and accepted nutritional dogma.
Remember there are many different ways you can ‘cut carbs’.
Last week, I was fortunate enough to spend a good deal of time with one of these scientists, Dr. Jeff Volek, as he was brought in by the Nutrition Department at Penn State to share his findings on carbohydrate restriction and metabolic syndrome. Here are some take ways points from Dr. Volek’s talk.
-You lose more weight and gain more muscle when you combine a low carb diet and resistance training compared to just a low carb diet or just resistance training – there seems to be some additive effect.
-People on low carb diets can eat 3x the saturated fat compared to people on a low fat diet and still have lower levels of saturated fat in their blood.
-Calorie restriction has been touted as a way to slow/stop aging. You can impact the same biological markers by restricting carbohydrates (while NOT restricting calories).
-Often times when people in Dr. Volek’s studies go on low carbohydrate diets they end up increasing their vegetable consumption (this is sad but I’m sure reflective of the American population’s lack of vegetable consumption).
-Metabolic Syndrome is becoming a huge problem in the U.S. and worldwide; carbohydrate restriction attacks all the problem areas of metabolic syndrome more comprehensively than any drug or treatment available.
-The obesity problem in the U.S. is driven by uncontrolled insulin levels. The best way to control insulin is to control its most powerful stimulator – carbohydrates.
-Carbohydrates have traditionally been considered a macronutrient but in reality they are not essential for human function.
-The level of ketoisis achieved from carbohydrate restriction is completely different from the ketoacidosis that a diabetic may experience (ketosis from carbohydrate restriction is much much lower and within safe ranges).
Remember when embarking on your weight loss journey it is essential to reduce your carbohydrate intake. It is not necessary to go to ketogenic levels but restricting starchy carbohdyrates and decreasing your overall carb intake is what you need to do in order to maximize weight loss in the shortest amount of time.

Low Carb Dieting – It’s not About Eliminating Carbs
The low carb diet revolution may have slowed down a bit, but the fact is that there are so many people that have just starting this style of diet plan. With all of the yoyo diets around, people are looking for a true diet plan that will aid in shedding off the pounds quickly. The biggest question when it comes to low carb eating is how healthy is it?
Traditionally, calories were what dieters counted. They had charts and scales to insure that they were eating the right amounts of food at a certain caloric level each day. Although trimming calories can result in weight loss, it is not the goal for a person following the low carb way of eating.
So what is it that low carb eaters count? Just as the name implies, it is the amount of carbohydrates that is the significant part of the plan. What many people don’t understand is how it works.
When you keep your carbohydrates down to a certain level, your body looks for a source for energy. Since there is a reduced level of carbohydrates, your body then goes down to the next step…burning fat. Yes, fat can be used as an energy source. Keep in mind that you are still eating the minimal amount of carbohydrates, not eliminating them from your diet.
In a traditional diet, people stay away from fatty foods. If you are using the low carb diet plan, you will be eating fatty foods. Whether you are eating a steak, some fish, or even nuts, there are oils and fats that you’ll be consuming. What you must consider are the types of fat that you’re eating…as there are bats that are bad for you such as the ones in margarine. These are often referred to as trans-fats.
So will your health improve or go down the hill while following the low carb diet plan? While following this diet, your insulin levels will decrease, your cholesterol will lower, your blood pressure will lower, and your blood sugar levels will stabilize. This are all moving you into a healthier position.
Another thing to consider is your nutrition. While eating low carb foods, you may be reducing nutrient rich foods which can be high in carbohydrates. So it’s important that your body gets all of the vitamins, minerals and fiber so that your body gets the recommended daily levels. The easiest thing to do is take nutritional supplements.
Just remember, everybody is different. Remember to ask a diet professional about any diet advice, especially if you have pre-existing health problems. This diet does change your chemistry to burn fat, so it’s important that you do it in the correct way.
